You may have to face harsh situations in adverse weather conditions, but Patagonia is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating places on earth.
There is no place in the world further south than Ushuaia
Patagonia. I still remember when, as a child, I fantasized about watching National Geographic documentaries about this incredible portion of the world in front of the television. At that age, obviously, I had no idea where this geographical region was located, between Argentina and Chile, but I was already madly in love with it. On the other hand, one cannot remain indifferent to the charm of this land; this is where you have to pass to get to the "end of the world", Ushuaia , the southernmost inhabited place on the planet.
One of the most important attractions of this land, a destination for excursions all year round, are certainly the splendid Magellanic penguins (named after the Portuguese explorer). These funny little animals, in fact, migrate to these lands during the mating season, and then return to the icy waters of Antarctica.
El Chalten: a small village in the center of Patagonia
From the south, going up towards the central part of Patagonia, you arrive at El Chalten, a small mountain village that stands on the bank of the Rio de Las Vueltas river. In this place that seems out of time, where some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world can be seen on the horizon, it is possible to begin to savor the essence of Patagonia. Mighty mountains, mirrored lakes and a constant wind catapult the traveler into a parallel dimension, where he feels at one with nature. Precisely for this reason, it is considered one of the most evocative trekking destinations on the planet.
Get lost along the paths of Patagonia
“Sometimes you have to get lost to find yourself”, I believe this indication is part of the motivations of every traveler at the beginning of a new journey. In Patagonia, along these winding paths, facing numerous challenges, in the midst of all kinds of adverse weather conditions, alone and far from home, I discovered sides of myself that I didn't even know existed.
In Patagonia everything changes, is modified, mixes with the wind, with the sun, with the earth. By car, driving towards Chile, you immediately notice the difference with Argentina, the landscapes become greener and you can feel a wilder, almost prehistoric atmosphere. I appreciated every single moment of this journey... as if those natural landscapes opened unexpected scenarios in my soul!
Mirador Base de Las Torres: an unforgettable experience
Here I also did one of the most beautiful trails of my life, Mirador Base De Las Torres , on the Chile-Argentina border, famous for its extremely violent gusts of wind. An unforgettable experience, beautiful but hard and tiring. To reach the top at dawn I had to face numerous challenges and divide the climb into two days due to a weather warning, which also forced me to sign a release of liability towards the body that manages the Park. That night was a succession of emotions, from sleeping in a tent with the sound of the rain to a clear starry sky the next day. I will never be able to forget that spectacle that nature offered me at the first light of day!
Memories that will remain with me forever.
